10 Creepy Places For A Ghostly Encounter

Are you an adventurous traveler? Are you the type that enjoys visiting spooky places? There are many places where according to legend, are dominated by ghosts and spirits. Here are ten of the top spooky travel destinations in the world!

   1. The Edinburgh Castle, Scotland

This towering fortress on the Castle Rock, has been the location of ruling kings and queens for literally centuries. With a history dating back to the twelfth century, legend has it that it is haunted by the ghosts and spirits of the prisoners put to death and the witches that were burnt at stake.

  1. Clinton Road, New Jersey

This road, ten miles long, has spooked people again and again! Stories of the ghosts of people who died on that road and still hang out there abound. There is the ghost child, who haunts the bridge he drowned from, and will return any coins left on the middle of the bridge, or according to some, thrown in the water, promptly at midnight. There is also the phantom truck, which tailgates any unfortunate driver who chooses to pass through Clinton Road.

  1. The Tower Of London, London

Here is where Queen Ann Boleyn, beheaded in 1536 for treason against her husband, Henry the eighth, still roams about freely, carrying her head under her arm. In 1816 a sentry reportedly died from fright after a bear ghost approached him. A glowing tube was seen a year later, and other spooky objects were reported more recently.

  1. Moundsville Penitentiary, West Virgina

Closed in 1995, the bloodcurdling screams of the tortured souls of the electrocuted prisoners and inmates murdered by other inmates can reportedly still be heard across the compound. Tourists can even choose to be locked inside at night,alone!

  1. The Queen Mary, California

This historic ship, which crashed and killed around 50 people aboard, still is inhabited by the original voyagers, according to reports. The original sailors are said to have been sighted, and the passengers still swim in a waterless swimming pool. And at the hull where the ship crashed, screams and screeching are still heard.

  1. Gettysburg Battlefield, Pennsylvania

Where 51,000 of America’s best lost their lives in the greatest battle in America’s history. The moans and groans of wounded soldiers are still heard,and the cannons and gunfire can still be faintly detected, according to some people.

  1. Rolling Hills Asylum, New York

Where more than 1,700 of the people who once inhabited this building, ranging from the sick to the mentally disturbed, are now buried. Eerie voices and doors slamming are everyday occurrences, and the tortured souls are still mindlessly moving around the furniture.

  1. Alamo, Texas

This is the site of the famous battle of Alamo, where Texas rebels and Mexican soldiers were killed, almost two thousand of them. Their ghosts are said to still hang around, and there is an old legend of six devils brandishing flaming swords.

  1. Parisian Catacombs, Paris

Although most of the catacombs are closed to tourists, visitors can still visit part of them and get a glimpse of the skulls, skeletons, and bones of six million parisians transferred from above ground cemeteries to reign in the diseases of the eighteenth century.

  1. Trans-Allegheny Lunatics Asylum, West Virginia

And last but not least, this nineteenth century asylum, which residents have died there and is now their final resting place, is another spooky tourist attraction, with daytime tours for the more softhearted.
